View of the Coachella Valley from Keys View where Tara spent many night shifts on drill rigs analyzing soil samples for groundwater wells in the Garnet Hill subbasin of the Coachella Valley. It was a beautiful location to gain experience as a young geologist.

When Tara was a little girl she loved to wander the outside world barefoot. It was a struggle to convince her to put on shoes. She always wanted to be connected to the natural wonders of the Pennsylvania wild. She never knew what to say when adults would ask what she wanted to be when she grew up but as a tween she immersed myself in her favorite genre of books whenever she could; tales of scientist's journeys to faraway lands to study the world around them. As she grew up, Tara wondered why there was so much political rhetoric surrounding the "environment". She decided she wanted to be a scientist to learn the facts behind the passion. Environmental Science was a fledgling major at best in the late 90's so she studied geology with a coordinate major in environmental studies. During college Tara moved to California so she could absorb the philosophy behind a state that had some of the strongest environmental and human health protection regulations while maintaining one of the strongest economies in the world.

After graduating from Occidental College in Los Angeles, fate provided Tara with a job in water resources. She has worked in hydrogeology for over 13 years and has Professional Geologist (PG) and Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) certifications in California. Tara has worked for three consulting firms during her career, GSi\water, Wildermuth Environmental, and Wood Rodgers, all in southern California. Being a consultant has given her the opportunity to study the state of water resources in California and learn the process for making fact-based decisions regarding the use and funding of the resource.
